Coach's Report - Week 1 vs St Ives

Congratulations on a super effort on Saturday. Reserves comfortably beat St. Ives quite comfortably 6-2 with six different scorers – Sid, Luke Turrin, Nick, Ray, Jimmy and Matt. We relaxed a little in the second half and let St. Ives in for a couple of goals but I think the heat was also a factor.

I thought first Grade were desperately unlucky not to get at least a point out of their game. We probably had our best chances to win the game in the middle period of the 1st half when we got our passing game together. Unfortunately, St. Ives then scored against the run of play. Ray kept us in the game with a number of great saves which meant we had a chance to snatch a draw right to the end.

Considering we only had 18 players available for 2 games showed what a gutsy performance it was. Thanks very much to all the guys who backed up and played in 1st grade after a full game or nearly full game in the heat in the early game. It would have been interesting to see how 1st grade would have gone on Saturday if we hadn’t had a few late drop-outs. We only have a squad of 26 players so it is important to place a high priority on playing and also training.
